Description

One of the most amazing things about my trip to Japan was the fact my friends and I arrived while Oshougatsu, which is the New Year Festival and events that lasts well into the second week of January. Our hostel was within a 4 minute walking distance from Sensoji Temple, the second largest temple in Tokyo. One of the things many people do at the shrine is pay a small amount of money in order to get a fortune. After they read it they then tie it to a tree, as seen in this photo. During Oshougatsu the trees around Sensoji were FILLED with these fortunes tied to the trees. I have some photos of bushes and trees and even a line of rope that is covered in fortunes. I ended up finding this little fortune tied to an empty part of the tree all on its lonesome. I'm positive though that later in the day it was probably joined by many, many others.
